clinic puja
image story

Apr 14, 2007 09: 50 EST
Yesterday was our puja. The night had been howling with the cold and wind and the morning dawned not much better, certainly not auspicious for climbing. As the lama prayed for the safety of the climbers and the kindness of the gods, the wind calmed and the sun smiled down on everyone in our camp.
The bitter cold we had been experiencing reminds us all of the importance of protection against frostbite. Cold itself is clearly a major risk but the wind compounds the danger, as does allowing the skin to get wet (from not changing socks, etc.). Keep well covered, dry and warm, and be vigilant of your exposed skin and that of your climbing partners
