Summit time!
image story

May 18, 2007 11: 30 EST
Yesterday the climbers of Mountain Madness were the first to summit Mount Everest this season, reaching the top at 7:45 am, May 16. By the afternoon they were safe back in Camp four on the South Col and several other groups followed the path Mountain Madness had broken and the lines they had fixed and to also reach the summit. The weather has remained as co-operative as one can hope for here, and although some climbers have turned back at various points, we anticipate further reports of more reaching the top today. Early this morning a number of teams, including Alpine Ascents, the British Scouts and the Malaysian team, left Base Camp to start their summit bids.

Sadly, two Korean climbers lost their lives attempting a new route on Everest when their tent was swept away, a reminder that this mountain is still a very dangerous place.

We here at the HRA wish all those on Everest health and a safe journey, no matter what point they reach.
