Practice makes perfect...

We watched new climbers learning and practising their techniques on ice formations at the foot of the icefall. Many of the teams are heading up to stay overnight at camp 1 and make the climb to camp 2. One of the problems of living at such a high altitude is the difficulty the body has maintaining muscle mass. Appetite is often suppressed and to be successful many climbers must consciously make the effort to eat. Exercise, acclimatization climbs and rest days must all be balanced to keep the body healthy for the final push to the summit a month from now.
