HAPE climber evacuated
May 19, 2004 15: 53 EST
Well we had a long intensive care - type night with our HAPE climber. He looked significantly better in the morning and was even able to walk to the helipad with oxygen. We sent him off to be cared for by our good friends, the doctors at the CIWEC clinic and have heard he is much improved. Another save.
Everyone is packing up to depart base camp and it's getting lonely around here. By Saturday it may be a cozy little camp -- our clinic staff and the basecamp folks at Alpine Ascents and Adventure Consultants. Both teams are on their push up the mountain now. We wish them all a speedy and HEALTHY summit
This beautiful photo was taken on the summit by our buddies and campmates, Tom McMillan, Ngawang Sherpa, Nima Gombu Sherpa, Nima Tashi Sherpa, and Pem Dorjee Sherpa, who are packing up and heading down the hill tomorrow.
