ALCF fundraiser

The director and logistics manager of the base camp medical clinic traveled to Salt Lake City this week for the Outdoor Retailer show and it has been everything it was built up to be -- and more. We've marvelled at the displays of everything a struggling mountaineer could want - and more. We made some great contacts that we hope will come through with new tents and other much needed equipment for our clinic and staff.

But last night was all about one of our favorite sister charities - the Alex Lowe Charitable Foundation. Some generous folks helped ALCF throw a fundraiser at the Snowbird resort for the Khumbu Climbing School (see www.alcf.org/kcs) and it's yearly educational program. We were happy to be part of it. Some great names in climbing (Hahn, Apa Sherpa, Athans and many more) showed up to show their support too. All enjoyed auctioneer Timmy Oneill and his always entertaining style -- that successfully coaxed folks to ante up some $ for some truly unique items. Among them an ice axe signed by the Everest summitteers in the audience (at last count, I believe over 50 summits represented in the signatures on this now-famous ice axe) - sold to proud owner and first ever 7 summitteer Dick Bass.

Great evening. Inspiring mission. Amazing people!
